For about fifty years Hungary was ruled under the Soviet regime, like much of the Eastern bloc. In Budapest, many buildings were stripped or left neglected after 1949 until the end of the cold war in 1990. Today, there is a constant movement to restore what still exists. Monuments and structures are being renovated inside and out, and places like Buda Castle are being added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Playing around with my camera, I thought I would share with you some of my favourite views overlooking Budapest, fittingly known as the “Paris of the East”.

Nice photos. There is something special about Budapest in winter.

I couldn’t agree more! I’m not a winter person, even as a Canadian! Budapest was mild this time of year for us and we actually enjoyed being outside and exploring!
